Last week, the FCC voted for the Internet to be regulated as a public utility. In this Knowledge in 5 podcast, former FCC Chairman Reed Hundt talked with Knowledge at Wharton radio show host Dan Loney about the winners and losers of the landmark decision. The Knowledge at Wharton show airs 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Eastern time Monday-Friday on Wharton Business Radio on SiriusXM channel 111.
“I think citizens are winners,” Hundt said during the interview. “The basic idea that the common communications platform for humanity wouldn’t in any way at all be subject to the government enforcing fair rules of the road — that is a Libertarian idea that is way too extreme and unnecessary. [With this ruling,] the FCC said, ‘We’re going to make sure the Internet provides equal access for businesses and for people.'”
