As a former strategy consultant at McKinsey, Manoj S. Jain realized that the research the firm provided its clients was almost as valuable as advice. He drew upon that notion to start his company, Pipal Research, which provides custom business research to global clients. According to Jain, his firm’s goal is to provide “high end services with global talent based in India, China or any other place from where we can serve our clients.” For example, Pipal Research digs into investment and equity data about hundreds of companies for hedge funds and mutual funds. “We have created a spot market for research,” he says of another service called PipalAnswers. In an interview with India Knowledge at Wharton, Jain discusses how Pipal Research sees its evolving role in the global knowledge market.
