John R. Kimberly is the Henry Bower Professor Emeritus of Management and Professor Emeritus of Health Care Management at the Wharton School.
From 1998-2002 he was the Novartis Professor of Healthcare Management at INSEAD, and was responsible for launching INSEAD’s Healthcare Management Initiative. From 2002-2014, he was the Executive Director of Wharton’s Global Alliance with INSEAD.
In 2012, he launched the Implementation Science Initiative at Penn, a collaborative venture involving Wharton, the medical school, and the nursing school. That initiative recently became the Penn Center for Implementation Science at LDI. Professor Kimberly consults with a number of organizations in the public and private sectors on problems of leadership, innovation and organizational design.
His book, The Globalization of Managerial Innovation in Health Care, with Gérard de Pouvourville and Tom D’Aunno, analyzes the spread of DRGs around the globe.
His research interests include health policy, institutional creation, managerial innovation, organizational change, and organizational design.
His previous academic appointments were at INSEAD, Yale University, the University of Illinois, and Cornell University, while his visiting appointments have included: Ecole Polytechnique, Paris; University of Paris-Dauphine; and Ecole Superieure en Sciences Economiques et Commerciales (ESSEC), Paris. He holds a PhD from Cornell University, an MS from Cornell, and a BA from Yale University.
