The royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was one of the most watched television events of 2018, drawing about 29 million viewers in the United States and a global audience estimated in the hundreds of millions. The lavish ceremony at St. George’s Cathedral in Windsor Castle was a feast for the eyes, a mix of old-world pageantry and personal touches from a young couple determined to do things their own way.

As with the weddings of Charles and Diana and William and Kate before them, the Harry-Meghan nuptials are sure to inspire style trends for ceremonies in the year to come. The Knowledge at Wharton show, which airs on SiriusXM channel 111, recently invited Esther Lee, senior news editor with wedding planning website The Knot, and Jennifer Spector, director of brand marketing for wedding planning and registry company Zola, to talk about the royal influence on the wedding industry. They were joined by Ludovica Cesareo, a post-doctoral fellow in marketing at Wharton who is getting married soon in her native Rome.
