A Knowledge@Wharton Special Report

Remembering Thomas Dunfee

Knowledge@Wharton notes with great sorrow the passing of Thomas W. Dunfee, chairman of Wharton's Legal Studies and Business Ethics department and former vice dean of the school's undergraduate division. A lawyer by training and an internationally recognized pioneer in business education, Tom brought the subject of business ethics to the Wharton school curriculum and established the school as a leading center for business ethics research.

Among many other Wharton projects, he helped to create both the Zicklin Center for Business Ethics Research and the business ethics program. On national and international levels, he was a leader in both the Society for Business Ethics and the International Society of Business, Economics and Ethics. Through these activities and his leadership roles in other professional associations, he was instrumental in firmly establishing business ethics research and teaching as priorities at both Wharton and numerous other business schools.

Closer to home, he was an early and enthusiastic supporter of Knowledge@Wharton, where his name has regularly appeared. We link to some of his many contributions below.
