******************************** Open Sesame? Or Could the Doors Slam Shut for Alibaba.com? http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/index.cfm?fa=viewfeature&id=1221 In a modern version of the old tale, Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba.com, has established an e-commerce company with millions of users and a growing global reputation. It offers three online marketplaces that bring together companies and consumers who want to do business with China. Faculty members at Wharton and other experts around the world say that Ma and his team have done an exemplary job of using their knowledge of China to build Alibaba's business there. The question, however, is whether Alibaba's economic model can withstand competition from major players such as eBay, which are moving aggressively into the Chinese market.
